HATCH Workshop's programming is designed to equip the upcoming generation of makers with the skills, livelihood, and ethic to be self-reliant and live with integrity. Our organization acts as a makerspace and arts education center that provides artistry programming to youth and adults in the greater Stockton area.
Run in collaboration with San Joaquin County’s Office of Education, the Stockton Unified School District, and various community organizations, Inspire Youth is a community arts education program designed to provide a safe space for local youth to learn, create, and enter into mentorship opportunities with HATCH Workshop team members. Classes in woodworking, metalworking, ceramics, and digital fabrication are taught on-site at various schools and partnered organizations, as well as in our downtown arts workshop. These classes provide a creative outlet for young people while also increasing opportunities to skilled artistry/trades employment.
HATCH’s Community Workshops provide artistic educational opportunities for the greater Stockton community in a collaborative, fun, and recreational environment. The various workshops offered are designed to support individuals of all skill levels and age as they practice creative expression and fine craft artistry techniques. Courses range from single-day skills building workshops or longer, multi-session workshops that grow indepth skills in the areas of wood working, metal working, ceramics, and digital fabrication.
Artistic Business Development & Entrepreneurship
In collaboration with Centro Community Partners and Stockton Impact Corps, HATCH Workshop will offer entrepreneurship training and business development workshops to artists wishing to monetize their craft. Program participants will learn how to develop a personal brand, establish a strong customer base, build a sustainable business plan, identify market gaps, network, and market themselves, among many other things. The program will provide artists with the resources necessary to gain entrepreneurial mindsets and professional business practices.
HATCH Production Team
At HATCH Workshop, we believe the most effective way to learn and master a craft is through the participation in real-world fine craft projects. Through the HATCH Production Team, interested young people and developing artists will work directly with senior HATCH team members to design and create custom artistry pieces for local community projects and/or small businesses. By participating hands-on in this process, Production Team members fine tune design/artistry skills, actively learn freelance business practices relevant to the crafts/trades industry (i.e. design process, budgeting, material procurement, & client interaction), earn an income, and form connections within the local community.
Under a tiered membership model, HATCH Workshop offers the greater Stockton community affordable access to a workshop fully equipped with woodworking, metalworking, and ceramics machinery. Whether experienced or new, artists will be able to explore, prototype, create, or improve fine craft artistry skills in a communal space that promotes collaboration, creativity, learning, and entrepreneurship. Private studio rentals are also available for established artists to have a dedicated space within our facility to launch their ventures and continue their craft.
HATCH Storefront & Gallery
HATCH Workshop’s storefront and gallery will serve as a local platform where the community can sell work, showcase artistic projects, host events, and ultimately build a strong local scene revolving around art, commerce, and culture. The space will be available to HATCH Workshop program participants (with an emphasis on interested youth and micro-entrepreneurs), as well as the greater Stockton community.
