Introduction to 3D Printing and Modeling
6PM-8PM

Learn the basics of solid 3D modeling using Tinkercad, a free online program! Students will explore the basics of additive and subtractive modeling using primitive forms, proper proportions and scales will also be a focus. Computer required.

$20 per person

WEDNESDAY
26TH

Introduction to Blacksmithing
6PM-9PM

Swing a hammer and smash metal against an anvil to turn a plain piece of metal into a bracelet or hook. Students will learn basic smithing techniques and metal manipulation after heating metal in our homemade gas forge. Non-synthetic full length pants and closed toed shoes required.

$30 per person, includes material

THURSDAY
27TH

Free Crit Circle
6PM-8PM

Bring in a finished or in-progress art piece to recieve grounded, constructive feedback from your peers. Never done a crit or shared your work? That's okay! All levels and media welcome. We'll establish a basic format for talking about someone's work and spend time on each piece individually- with some time at the end for talking about the group's work as a whole.

Our wonderful new resident artist, Amalie, will be leading this event. 

This event is free to attend, just show up!

Introduction to Photoshop
11AM-1PM

Explore and develop core skills with Photoshop for a wide array of applications. Learn to edit photos, create documents with multiple layers, develop assets for web and print design, best practice for laser cutter setup, and some fun tricks along the way!

$20 per person

Introduction to Clay Hand Building: Slab Construction
11AM-1PM

Learn the fundamentals of hand building using the slab construction techniques. This class uses rolled slabs of clay and forms are built by cutting the slab into shapes and joining them together. Rubber stamps and textured patterns may also be used.

$30 per person, includes material and firing fee

Introduction to MIG Welding
4PM-7PM

Metal inert gas (MIG) welding is one of the most fundamental skills to learn as a fabricator. Students will gain in depth technical knowledge about the process of preparing and properly fusing steel with a MIG Welder. Non-synthetic full length pants and closed toed shoes required.

$40 per person, includes material and gas fee

4TH

Introduction to Metal Casting
6PM-9PM

This class teaches the basics of casting, mold making, and metalworking skills. Using the bone of a cuttlefish as a rudimentary mold, students learn about negative space, a very important concept of casting and foundry work. After carving the cuttlebone, liquid metal is poured into the mold to produce a solid object. Then students work with their metal object and learn basic metalworking techniques to turn their rough metal object into a finished sculpture. Closed toed shoes required.

Introduction to Clay Hand Building: Pinch Pots
12PM-2PM

Learn the fundamentals of hand building using the pinch pot method. This class will cover the basics of clay, handbuilding techniques, chemistry of clay, and proper glazing methods. This is a two-part class and following session one, a HATCH team member will coordinate Day 2 with the students. Second date is dependent on timing of firing the clay before glazing.

Quickly design and fabricate a custom piece. We will learn about rapid prototyping and the production process and everyone will leave with a custom good.

Learn the basics of v-carving with the CNC router, and go home with your own customized sign! Basic toolpathing and machine techniques are covered, as well as bit choice and speeds/feeds. Material will be provided, and finishing techniques will be briefly covered at the end of class.
